Teen Mom alum Tyler Baltierra is tired of people making assumptions about his personal life — as well as what’s going on with his biological daughter Carly, whom he and wife Catelynn Baltierra placed for adoption.

The couple’s journey was documented on the first season of Teen Mom, when Carly, now 17, was adopted by Brandon and Theresa Davis.

Over the years, Tyler and Catelynn, both 34, have spoken about their complicated and tense relationship with Carly’s adoptive parents, even though they initially opted for an open adoption.

In a recent video posted earlier this week by a content creator on Instagram, the topic of boundaries came up regarding Tyler and Catelynn’s desire to communicate with Carly. (Brandon and Theresa allegedly blocked them, People reported in March 2025.)

Tyler weighed in on the comments section of the recent post discussing boundaries set between the two families.

“It all comes down to assumptions,” Tyler wrote. “Assumptions about how Carly feels & assumptions that B & T are acting in Carly’s best interest & giving her autonomy over her choices regarding her adoption as an adoptee.”

He said that assumptions “can cause lots of unnecessary pain” that can be solved by “openly communicating.”

Regarding social media users meddling in their personal business, Tyler said, “I think if creators (& ppl in general) really cared about how she felt & wanted to be more careful, they wouldn’t continue to bring her up by responding to other ppl’s irrelevant assumptions & perpetuating the conversation further.”

Tyler claimed that he doesn’t “go out of [his] way” to speak about Carly unless it is regarding “misinformation.”

“At this rate, content creators have said her name, talked about her, her adoption & her parents far more than I ever did in the past 16 yrs on TV lol 😂,” he added.

The comment sparked a back-and-forth conversation regarding how Tyler and his wife, whom he married in 2015, have handled talking about their adoption story and relationship with Carly.

While Tyler and Catelynn seemed to have feelings of regret about opting for adoption, he said he only wants the best for Carly.

“I’ve never wished to co parent, only to maintain the agreement we all made for Carly,” he said. “Again, I only want what she wants. That’s why I do sit back & wait.”
