Soulja Boy was sued in 2021 over alleged sexual battery, assault, false imprisonment, hostile work environment, emotional distress and wage violations by his ex-assistant.

In Touch breaks down what Soulja Boy (real name: DeAndre Cortez) was accused of after the woman was awarded more than $4 million in compensatory damages and another $250,000 in punitive damages in April 2025.

What Is Soulja Boy Accused Of?

The ex-assistant, who uses the pseudonym Jane Doe in court, alleged she suffered severe physical and emotional harm due to Soulja’s alleged actions.

In her original 2021 lawsuit obtained by In Touch, Jane claimed she started working for the musician as his personal assistant in December 2018 and was responsible for a variety of tasks, including cleaning, cooking, handing luggage, styling his car, driving him around vetting guests, handling travel and any other requests. She claimed she was paid $500 per week and was allowed to live in his L.A. home, where she worked seven days a week, up to 20 hours a day.

Their relationship took a turn when the rapper allegedly began sending her unsolicited photos of his penis during her first month on the job. She said Soulja “began to act abusively and violently.”

She claimed alleged abuse, including “numerous instances of physical violence (kicking, throwing, and punching), sexual assaults, spitting on her body, and threats of physical violence and death,” per court documents.

Jane claimed Soulja sexually assaulted her for the first time in February 2019. Her suit alleged the rapper expressed remorse and gave her $1,000.

One year later, she claimed the rapper told her, “I should have killed you,” following a violent encounter in April 2020. Jane’s suit accused Soulja of punching her in the head 10 times during the relationship.

In addition, she accused Soulja of locking her in a room against her will for three days, with no hot water, after she tried to quit and leave him. Jane claimed he convinced her not to leave him.

Months later, Jane claimed she feared for her life during an incident in August 2020. She claimed to return to the home in September or October 2020 to retrieve attempts. Jane accused Soulja of raping her again.

“On numerous occasions [Jane] advanced the costs of food, cell phone, groceries, and other purchases that were directed by [Soulja], and [Soulja] failed to reimburse her for these expenses that were related to her employment with him,” the suit added.

Jane claimed Soulja also stiffed her on the $500 a week in pay he had allegedly promised.

How Did Soulja Boy React to the Accusations?

The “Kiss Me Thru the Phone” artist has denied all claims of wrongdoing and that Jane was ever his employee.

Soulja demanded the entire suit be tossed and Jane be ordered to pay his legal fees.

In the lawsuit filing, he argued they had a “consensual, intimate relationship for approximately a year before it dissolved.”

Further, his lawyer argued, “With respect to all causes of action, without admitting that any particular action or conduct occurred, upon information and belief, any and all alleged action or conduct [Jane] claims is illegal or improper, occurred, if at all, with [Jane’s] s consent.”

The case dragged on for years due to various delays.

Soulja Boy Grilled Potential Jurors Ahead of Assault Trial

In Touch exclusively reported on March 18, 2025, Soulja Boy and Jane Doe grilled potential jurors on whether they had a positive or negative opinion on the rapper ahead of trial as the case prepared to go to court.

In Touch obtained the joint juror questionnaire submitted by Soulja and Jane Doe, in which the recently selected jury members were asked a series of questions about their backgrounds and opinions on various topics.

The men and women were questioned on whether they had been sued or sued anyone in the past. They were also asked if they knew who Soulja Boy was and if they had they were asked to provide their opinion on him.

The parties were able to lock down a jury, and the trial was scheduled to start on March 17, 2025.

Soulja Boy Was Found Liable for Assault, Sexual Battery and Intentional Infliction of Emotional Distress

Soulja had to pay his accuser nearly $4 million after he was found liable by a California jury following a three-week trial. Jurors determined that Jane should also receive another $250,000 in punitive damages.

One of the plaintiff’s attorneys, Neama Rahmani, said that “today is just the beginning of justice for Soulja Boy’s victims,” Rahmani added, “We are going to ask for millions of dollars more based on his ability to pay, and to punish him for this egregious physical and sexual assault.”
