Christina Applegate is opening up about reports she was hospitalized amid her ongoing journey with multiple sclerosis.
After an article was published last week claiming that the Married… with Children alum, 54, was hospitalized in early March, her rep responded to the situation, saying that they had “no comment on whether she is in the hospital or what her medical treatments are.” They noted, however, that Applegate has had a “long history of complicated medical conditions.”
In a post shared to Instagram on Monday, April 20, Applegate addressed the concern herself.
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and well wishes,” she captioned a photo of her memoir You with the Sad Eyes that had a coffee mug sitting on top of it.
“Health issues are a constant for me, but I’m a strong chick and I’m getting stronger and better every day,” she wrote. “I’m taking a moment to focus on my health, but I’ll be back with more to say soon enough.”
Fans and friends showered the actress with love and support. In the comments section, Jerry O’Connell wrote, “Always here, CA! Heart you!!!”
Applegate, who has been living with MS — an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system — since 2021, often walks with a cane due to her compromised motor skills from MS.
After news of Applegate’s apparent hospitalization made headlines, a source told the Daily Mail that friends are worried.
“With every setback, if we are being realistic, everyone has it in the back of their minds that they might not have a tomorrow with her,” the source said, per Page Six. “Christina is a fighter, but her battle with MS has been treacherous. She has better days and really bad days; she doesn’t have great days. She’s always dealing with something. It sucks.”
Applegate explained in her memoir You with the Sad Eyes, which was released last month, that she has “no muscles” on her body due to MS.
“It’s dangerous to be walking around with zero muscles on my body: it means my bones aren’t protected if I fall, and it scares me,” she wrote. “But there’s still that little voice in my head saying, ‘You’re really skinny. You have the legs you always wanted. Good for you.’”
