As the search for Nancy Guthrie continues, more people are trying to make sense of the few clues that were left behind.
Retired FBI profiler Jim Clemente joined journalist Brian Entin for the Wednesday, April 22, episode of Brian Entin Investigates to share some theories on the blood seen at the Arizona home of Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother.
Clemente, who worked for the FBI for over two decades, pointed out that the “spatter patterns” of the 84-year-old’s blood outside the home appear to have happened “very close in time,” indicating that “some action” took place “in the middle of them.”
In one close-up image of the blood stains, Clemente noted that three “circular blood spots” can be seen, but because they appear to be “hollow,” he believes they were bubbles that burst.
“She coughed it out,” he said, adding that he believes “her mouth was within a foot of the ground, probably pointing almost straight down at this point. So I would assume that meant that she was either hunched over completely or she was on her knees.”

Because the blood patterns disappear, “I believe that she was likely picked up and carried the rest of the way, perhaps with her face up so that there was no more blood deposited on that walkway.”
Clemente concluded, “I believe that Nancy fought him either inside the door or just outside the door, depending on where the first appearance of this blood spatter evidence is. And at that point, she was likely either blitzed with overwhelming force, punched in the face or the nose, and she began bleeding.”
“She went down either on her knees or just hunched over and then coughed up this blood, which is why we see this pattern,” he said.
While it is still unknown what exactly happened to the Today anchor’s mother after she was last seen on January 31, video footage released by authorities show a masked and “armed individual” appearing to tamper with the camera at Nancy’s front door.
Nancy was reported missing by family members on February 1, and her whereabouts remain unknown. No suspects nor persons of interest have been announced.

Savannah’s mother is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighs around 150 pounds; she has brown hair and blue eyes.
Savannah and her family are offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading to the recovery of Nancy, and she said during her interview with Hoda Kotb that she hopes and prays someone will come forward.
