Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s son Maddox Jolie-Pitt quietly took a major step toward legally dropping “Pitt” from his last name nearly a week before his sister Zahara completed the same requirement.
According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Maddox, 24, completed California’s required four-week newspaper publication process on July 1, just six days before Zahara’s notice was executed on July 7.
Under California law, people seeking a legal name change must generally publish a notice of their petition before a judge can approve the request, giving anyone the opportunity to object.
Maddox is seeking to legally change his name from Maddox Chivan Jolie-Pitt to Maddox Chivan Jolie, according to the filing.
Pitt, 62, and ex-wife Jolie, 51, share Maddox along with his five siblings — Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — and he was the third of the former couple’s children to legally request to drop “Pitt” from his last name.
While Knox and Vivienne haven’t taken the legal steps to drop their father’s surname, Knox omitted “Pitt” from his high school diploma earlier this year in June using the name “Knox Jolie” instead. Meanwhile, Vivienne was previously credited as “Vivienne Jolie” in the Playbill for the Broadway production of The Outsiders.
