Maddox Jolie-Pitt is following in his siblings’ footsteps as he drops his father Brad Pitt‘s last name.

According to a report from the Daily Mail on Thursday, May 28, Maddox, 24, officially filed documents to legally change his name to Maddox Chivan Jolie. He listed his reason for the request as “personal.”

Maddox had already stopped using the surname informally earlier this year and was listed as simply Maddox Jolie in the end credit of his mother Angelina Jolie‘s film, Couture.

His younger sister, Shiloh, 20, was the first of Maddox’s siblings to legally petition to change her name on her 18th birthday in May 2024 from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.

Later that same year, Zahara, 21, introduced herself as Zahara Marley Jolie instead of Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt when she joined her sorority at Spelman College.

Maddox’s decision comes after years of reported tension between him and his father.

Maddox and Brad, 62, have had a contentious relationship for years. In 2022, a source told In Touch that the Oceans 11 star was “super upset” about their estrangement because they “had such a special connection” when Maddox was younger.

“He sent him a gift for his 21st birthday and a loving note as a last ditch effort to make amends, but never heard back,” the source said at the time. “Brad really misses Maddox and was really hoping to repair their relationship, but he has hit a wall.”

Brad and Angelina, 50, split after two years of marriage in 2016, but their divorce wasn’t finalized until 2024. The former couple has also been embroiled in a yearslong legal battle over their French winery, Chateau Miraval. Earlier this week, a separate source told In Touch that their children have remained firmly supportive of their mother amid the ongoing dispute.

“They are very much of the all-for-one mentality,” the source said on Thursday, May 28. “They don’t want their mom, or anyone in the family, to ever have financial anxiety.”
