Mandy Moore Reveals the Cocktail Macaulay Culkin Introduced Her to During ‘Underage Drinking’ on ‘Saved’

Mandy Moore is looking back on her time filming the 2004 black comedy Saved!, which also stars Macaulay Culkin.

During the Tuesday, May 26, episode of Netflix’s Shut Up Evan, the Breadwinner star, 42, told host Evan Ross Katz what it was like filming Saved! when she was 18 years old.

“I’d really just done Princess Diaries and A Walk to Remember, and I was like, ‘This will be fun,'” Moore recalled of being offered the role of Hilary Faye Stockard in the film after Anne Hathaway apparently had to drop out of the project.

“And the fact that I’d had so much fun doing both of those films, namely Princess Diaries, because it was with a lot of other young people — I was like, ‘Oh, this is like summer camp!'” the This Is Us alum continued.

Moore said that she felt like a “cool kid” performing alongside such a talented cast of other young actors, including Jena Malone, Patrick Fugit, Eva Amurri and Culkin, now 45.

“I was like, ‘Oh, I get to sit at the cool kids table with these young Hollywood kids that are making really cool choices, and they’re a part of really great films,” Moore explained.

While Moore said that she and the cast didn’t get into too much trouble during their time filming, she did admit that there was “a little bit of underage drinking” going on behind the scenes.

“Look, I didn’t go to high school,” she said.

Culkin, who was legally able to drink in Canada at the time, apparently told the cast about one of his favorite cocktails.

“I think it was Mac — Macaulay — that introduced me and all of us to a White Russian,” Moore recalled. “I was like, ‘Milk and alcohol?! This is made for me, I love this! I mean, it’s perfect. This is like ice cream, this is fantastic!'”

Looking back on Saved!, Moore said, “I just loved the script and the character, and I thought it was really irreverent and funny, and also like gonna move the needle.”

“But it also felt so wholly different than who I am that I was like, ‘Oh this is a stretch, and this is unlike anything I’ve done before. So hopefully, very intentionally, this’ll open up a door to other projects,’ like people seeing me and regarding me in a different light,” she said.

Added Moore: “It was a crazy, crazy life-changing experience.”
