Liam Payne ‘Jumped From the Balcony of His Room’ Before His Death, Local Authorities Confirm

New details have emerged about Liam Payne’s final moments, revealing the ex One Direction star “jumped from the balcony of his room” before his death at 31 years old, according to the Associated Press. 

Pablo Policicchio, the communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, confirmed the news in a statement, adding that police were dispatched to the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday, October 16, just after 5 p.m. local time, following a report from the hotel manager about an “aggressive man possibly under the influence of drugs or alcohol.” 

According to an audio recording of the 911 call obtained via local media by Telemundo, the hotel staff member said the guest “overindulged on drugs and alcohol,” adding, “When he is conscious he breaks, he is breaking the whole room. Well, we need you to send someone, please.”

The employee stated that police were needed at the hotel “urgently,” expressing concern that the guest — who was not identified as Liam — was at risk. “The guest is in a room that has a balcony and, well, we are a little afraid that he might do something life-threatening,” the caller said.

Liam was dead by the time authorities arrived on the scene. Buenos Aires police later said that Liam’s fall from the third-floor balcony resulted in “extremely serious injuries” and medics confirmed his death on the spot.

“There was no possibility of resuscitating him,” the authorities said. “He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall.”

Following the news of the “What Makes You Beautiful” singer’s tragic fall, tributes have poured in from A-listers mourning his death.

“I’m not gonna ever be able to fully voice how I am feeling but … I feel so fortunate to have been in the same generation as Liam Payne and the phenomenon of 1D,” Noah Cyrus wrote via her Instagram Stories. “Liam you are so loved and will always be loved by so many. This is the most devastating, awful, heartbreaking news. I’m sending so much love to his family, girlfriend and the close people around him.”

Meanwhile, Rita Ora wrote, “​​I’m devastated. He had the kindest soul, I will never forget. I loved working with him so much – he was just such a joy to be around on and off stage. This tragic news breaks my heart. Sending all my love and prayers to his family and loved ones. Our song For You takes on a whole new meaning for me now. R.I.P.”

“RIP Liam … I can’t believe this is real … absolutely heartbreaking,” Zedd wrote via X.

Liam was in the South American country supporting his former bandmate Niall Horan on his international tour. On October 2, footage showed the U.K. native in good spirits, waving and interacting with fans while accompanied by his girlfriend in a private suite.

The musician was transparent in the past about his struggles with drugs and alcohol, admitting that during the height of his boy band fame, he had “moments of suicidal ideation.”

“It was fun, we had an absolute blast,” he explained in a 2019 interview. “But there were certain parts of it where it just got a little bit toxic.”
