Savannah Guthrie is a total shell of herself as the search for her beloved mother Nancy Guthrie prepares to enter its fifth month, an insider tells In Touch.
“You only need to look at her to see how much she’s suffering,” the insider says of the broadcast journalist, who confessed to close pal Jenna Bush Hager earlier this month that she cries “every morning on the way to work” and the way back home, per People. “There are a lot of people in her world — both at work and within her friendship circle — who believe she rushed back too soon.”
As In Touch previously reported, Savannah, 54, broke into tears on the Tuesday, June 23, episode of the Today show after it was revealed that a second ransom note sent to her and her family claimed that Nancy, 84, had accidentally died in the midst of her abduction.
“Of course, nobody could blame her for going with her gut and wanting to take her mind off this ordeal by throwing herself into what she loves most,” notes the insider. “There’s no doubt it’s been cathartic for her … but there’s the safety factor to consider here too.”
“She’ll always be looking over her shoulder and worried these monsters could strike again,” In Touch‘s insider reveals. “It’s heartbreaking. Everyone just wants this nightmare to be over for Savannah, so she can finally start to heal.”
Until then, “she seems condemned to a lifetime of pain and misery, which is just indescribably awful for everyone to see,” says the insider.
