“Imagine having the worst moment of your life turned into headlines. The family is devastated. This isn’t just information — it’s their trauma,” one source told Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack on Tuesday, June 23.
Another source added that the longtime Today host is “absolutely heartbroken” about the details being released.
“These are details the family prayed would remain private,” the source continued. “They were never meant for public consumption.”
However, on Monday, June 22, a digital publication named AirMail reported that Nancy’s family initially received a ransom demand seeking millions of dollars in Bitcoin. Days later, a second message from the same IP address claimed that Nancy had died while being held by her captors.

While news of the ransom notes first surfaced shortly after Nancy went missing, the contents of the notes were kept private until now.
But the Guthrie family is upset the information has been shared with the public because it “doesn’t help find Nancy.”
“It doesn’t solve the case. It doesn’t bring anyone closer to justice,” the source told Naughty But Nice. “All it does is force the family to relive the nightmare all over again.”
“She still wants the truth,” a source said. “She just wishes some of the family’s pain could have stayed private.”
