O.J. Simpson’s Son Jason Was Once Thought to Be a Suspect in His Father’s Infamous Crimes

It’s pretty safe to say that public interest in the O.J. Simpson trial hasn’t waned. Last October, the disgraced football player was released from prison after nine years behind bars and was purposely released in the wee hours of the morning for “public safety.” A statement on the Nevada DOC’s official Facebook page read, “The Nevada Department of Corrections, in an effort to ensure public safety and reduce the potential for incident, released Orenthal James Simpson #1027820, on October 1, 2017, at 12:08 a.m. from Lovelock Correctional Center.”

Now that “The Juice” is loose —and a 2007 interview promoting his hypothetical novel If I Did It: Confessions of a Killer is finally being aired on Sunday, March 11 —  fans are wondering about other aspects of his life, like what his children have been up to after he spent nearly a decade in the slammer. Not a whole lot is known about the Simpson sibs, but arguably the biggest mystery of all surrounds O.J.’s oldest son, Jason Simpson, who he had with his first wife, Marguerite Whitley. To this day, investigators have reason to believe Jason is the real killer

William Dear, a Dallas-based private investigator, claimed he had “hard evidence” that exonerates the football Hall of Famer, who was acquitted of killing ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman in 1995. “I have evidence nobody has seen or looked at,” he said of the alternative theories in his 2012 book O.J. Is Innocent and I Can Prove It. William claims that evidence pointed towards Jason.

Jason — who was 24 at the time of the murders — allegedly killed Nicole and Ron in a fit of rage and O.J. came to the scene to help his son cover up the crime. According to Business Insider, William claimed in his book that Jason had allegedly been diagnosed with “intermittent rage disorder” and was prescribed the drug Depakote to control it. His book made several claims (that have never been verified) and suggested that Jason abused alcohol and cocaine, had a history of attempting suicide, and “nearly killed” a former girlfriend with a knife.

Jason also spent time in jail

At the time of the killings, Jason was on probation for assault with a deadly weapon — he attacked a former employer with a knife.

O.J. had three kids with his first wife Marguerite Whitley, daughters Arnell and Aaren, who died from an accidental drowning when she was 2 years old, and their son Jason. Marguerite married her football-playing high school sweetheart when she was just 19 years old and divorced him in 1974. O.J. blamed his celebrity for the end of their marriage at the time. “The price of fame was our biggest problem,” O.J. told People magazine. “My wife is a private person, yet we can’t walk down the street without causing a commotion.” She went on to get married two more times following their divorce — but has always defended her ex-husband’s innocence. “He’s just not like that,” she told Barbara Walters in 1995 when asked about his alleged involvement in Nicole and Ron’s murders.
