Luigi Mangione was arrested and charged with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. The Ivy League graduate was allegedly carrying a ghost gun and manifesto, which has been a point of topic throughout court proceedings.
Did Luigi Mangione Have a Manifesto?
People obtained Mangione’s arrest warrant on December 11, 2024, one week after Thompson was assassinated in New York City. The document claimed that Mangione had “written admissions” in his possession, which a law enforcement source told the publication was a “manifesto.”
Mangione allegedly wrote that Thompson’s tragic death “had to be done,” adding, “frankly, these parasites had it coming,” the source told the outlet.
That day, Mangione’s lawyer Thomas Dickey addressed the manifesto on Good Morning America, stating that it could “certainly” be a piece of evidence.
“I haven’t seen any of that yet. One of the rules of evidence is that there’s a rule of completeness, so you have to take any writing, any document in its entirety because some things can be taken out of context,” Dickey said.
Luigi Mangione Arrested and Charged With Brian Thompson’s Death
Thompson was shot and killed in front of the Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan on December 4, 2024. The following day, before identifying the suspect, TMZ reported that the shell casings from three bullets had “deny,” “defend” and “depose” written on them.
Mangione was arrested on December 9, 2024, after he was identified exiting a Greyhound bus and entering a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Once in police custody, officials found various fake IDs, a gun that matched the description of the gun that killed Thompson.
That day, Mangione was charged with forgery, carrying a firearm without a license and one count of second-degree murder.
Mangione’s family issued a statement shortly after, keeping their thoughts concise.
“Unfortunately, we cannot comment on news reports regarding Luigi Mangione. We only know what we have read in the media,” the statement read. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest. We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson, and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.”
Luigi Mangione Shouts About ‘Injustice’ Before Extradition Hearing
Mangione was transported to the Blair County Courthouse in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, for his extradition hearing on December 10, 2024.

“It’s completely out of touch and an insult to the intelligence of the American people. It’s lived experience,” he yelled, before screaming about “injustice in the system.”
Mangione is being held without bail and battling his extradition in court as of publication. He is currently being held in a Pennsylvania state prison.
Dickey addressed his client’s behavior the following day, stating that Mangione is “irritated [and] agitated” because of what “he’s being accused of.”
“He never had any legal representation until he walked into that building yesterday. And I talked to him … look at the difference between when he went in and when he came out … now he has a spokesperson and someone that’s going to fight for him,” Dickey told CNN at the time.
