Grab the Popcorn, Because Zac Efron’s Ted Bundy Film Is Coming to Netflix

This should be … interesting. Director Joe Berlinger’s new film about the sick crimes of Ted Bundy is coming to Netflix, and actor Zac Efron plays the notorious murderer. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix is closing in on a deal for the United States and some international rights for Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and a source claims the deal cost a whopping $9 million. The company must have been really impressed with the movie’s Sundance showing!

The film follows the crimes of Bundy from the point of view of his longtime partner, Elizabeth Kloepfer, who struggled to come to terms with the truth about him for many years. Other performers involved with the project include Lily Collins as Elizabeth as well as Haley Joel Osment, Kaya Scodelario, John Malkovich, Jim Parsons and Angela Sarafyan.

Interestingly, Berlinger also produced the hit docuseries Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes, which premiered on Netflix in January.

“He got really lost in his portrayal of Ted,” a source told In Touch Weekly exclusively of 31-year-old Zac’s transformation into the infamous killer. “So much so that he acted like a real jerk and a creep to the cast and crew, and even to some fans in town. Many people on set didn’t think it was an act, and he had to apologize. And now there are some fans out there who think Zac’s really rude!”

Bundy was a serial killer who admitted to murdering over 30 female victims across seven states in the 1970s. He was also known to perform sexual acts on his victims’ corpses and kept severed heads as mementos before he was ultimately captured for the final time in 1978 in Florida. Now, he’s being immortalized in several film projects all coming out around the same time. True crime fans must be thrilled.
