Meghan Markle Was Likely ‘Humiliated’ Watching Royal Drama With Prince Harry Unfold

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s travel drama was apparently awkward for everyone.

Though the Duke of Sussex, 41, finally reunited his family — including the couple’s two children, Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5 — with his father, King Charles III, it took a lot of back and forth between the royals before they got there.

While Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, ultimately hosted the Sussexes last week at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire, England, a source told People in a story published Wednesday, July 15, that Meghan would have felt “humiliated” watching the drama play out.

The king, 77, initially extended an invitation for Harry and his wife, 44, to stay at Buckingham Palace with the kids. Amid security concerns for Harry’s family — given that they were declined taxpayer-funded security for his stay — their travel plans appeared to be up in the air.

As In Touch previously reported, Harry’s offer to stay at Buckingham Palace was revoked.

The drama surrounding the visit was “quite stressful,” a source close to the Sussexes told People.

“There were U-turns and backtracks, and it will have all added to the complete exasperation of the King and his aides when dealing with Harry,” added royal author Russell Myers.

“What was billed as a big homecoming — not only for Harry but potentially for Meghan too — turned into a nightmare,” Myers said. “It was further evidence of the fractiousness of Harry’s relationship with the institution.”

Still, the Duchess of Sussex was “very supportive” of her husband throughout the uncertainty leading up to the Sussexes’ big trip, with another source saying there was “a lot of sadness” over how the week unfolded.

Though the Spare author was back in the United Kingdom, seeing his brother, Prince William, appeared to be out of the question.

As for the brothers’ relationship, an insider told People that their bond is “so broken.”
