According to a report from People published on Monday, July 13, the two-night A&E special, Scott Peterson: The New Evidence, takes a closer look at several claims Scott’s legal team has raised in recent years as they continue to argue that he was wrongfully convicted of killing his wife, Laci Peterson, and their unborn son, Conner, in 2002.
One of the biggest questions raised is whether Conner died when prosecutors claimed he did. Per People, Scott’s attorneys point to newer fetal development research they claim suggests the unborn baby may have died weeks later than the timeline that was originally presented in the trial.
The documentary also examines a new hydrodynamic analysis of the San Francisco Bay, using experts hired by the Los Angeles Innocence Project (LAIP) arguing that Laci’s body may have entered the water miles from where prosecutors alleged Scott disposed of it after killing her.
They also take a look at notes the defense claims were written by Laci about purchasing equipment for Scott’s fishing boat. His attorneys argue that the writings contradict the prosecutor’s theory that he secretly bought the boat as part of a plan to murder his wife.

Another piece of evidence Scott’s legal team revisits are the accounts from 15 separate witnesses who reportedly told investigators that they saw Laci walking her dog on Christmas Eve after Scott said he left home. The defense believes those sightings weren’t fully investigated.
Finally, the special revisits the burglary at a home across the street from Laci and Scott’s home. His attorneys claim Laci may have encountered the burglars before she went missing. Prosecutors have consistently maintained that the break-in occurred after she disappeared.
