Who Is Nathan Fillion’s Character Guy Gardner in ‘Superman’ 2025? Details on James Gunn’s Film

Superman 2025 will premiere on July 11, 2025, and fans got their first look at the film in December 2024 when the teaser trailer dropped. While Superman is the star of the show, James Gunn’s version will also include some other well known names in the DC Universe, including Nathan Fillion’s character, Guy Gardner.

For those not fully immersed in the world of DC comics, the name Guy Gardner might not have rung any bells. However, it’s likely they’ve heard of the superhero known as the Green Lantern. Nathan’s appearance as Guy in the Superman 2025 teaser didn’t help jog casual viewers’ memories because he looked, well, strange.

Nathan was sporting one heck of a bowl cut, complete with an orangish, blonde tone. While it might not be the most flattering look on the Firefly alum, it’s pretty close to what Guy looks like in the comics. Guy’s hair was one of the features that made him stand out and James joked about the look before the trailer premiered.

“Giving my old pal Nate a bowl cut might have been my primary reason for casting him,” the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director said via Threads in response to a fan who asked about the hairstyle.

Why Is Guy Gardner Not Wearing the Typical Green Lantern Suit?

On top of Guy’s less than impressive hair, hardcore fans probably noticed that he’s also not wearing a green suit, something most people connect with the Green Lantern. Instead, he’s wearing a white suit with a more “corporate” look and it’s similar to what Isabela Merced’s character Hawkgirl is wearing as she flies through the sky.

“The white of the costume might indicate something about Gardner’s relationship to the rest of the Green Lantern Corps. In the comics, Gardner often finds himself at odds with the rest of the Corps, either because he works for a splinter group of Guardians or because he’s joined the Red Lanterns,” an article from Den of Geek reads. “The fact that he’s foregone green in this version might suggest that movie Guy sees himself as more of an independent player than a member of the Corps.”

Which Other DC Characters Appear in ‘Superman’ 2025?

Along with Superman, Green Lantern and Hawkgirl, James is bringing a special super pet to the silver screen in the film. Superman’s dog, Krypto, sent fans into a spiral when he popped up in the trailer for the first time. Krypto first appeared in Adventure Comics #210 in 1955, and he’s popped up in Superman’s story on numerous occasions, but this is the first time he’s made an appearance in a movie. The good boy even dons his own red cape as he saves Superman after a particularly rough fall onto some snow in the trailer.

Just like there’s no Batman without the Joker, there’s no Superman without Lex Luthor. This time around, Nicholas Hoult is taking on the role of the supervillain. Lex has previously been played by the likes of Gene Hackman and Jesse Eisenberg. This isn’t Nicholas’ first rodeo in the world of comic book movies, though. He has also played Beast in several of the X-Men films.

Fans will also see Lois Lane, Superman’s longtime love interest, Kelex (Superman’s robot assistant,) and fellow DC heroes Metamorpho and Mister Terrific.
