Tom Hardy Reportedly Clashed With Dame Helen Mirren on Set—Inside the Mobland Tension Fans Are Dying to See
Tom Hardy exits MobLand amid reports of on-set clashes with Helen Mirren and a history of conflicts dating back to Mad Max: Fury Road with Charlize Theron.
Now that news of Tom Hardy‘s exit from MobLand has broken, fans are looking closer at the toxic atmosphere brewing on the Paramount+ set. Rumors of a massive clash between the 48-year-old actor and co-star Dame Helen Mirren have taken center stage. While viewers eagerly await season two, insiders reveal that the relationship between the two main stars became extremely strained during production.
According to previous reports from last year, the 80-year-old Oscar winner grew increasingly annoyed by her colleague’s behavioral quirks. Crew members claimed Hardy would constantly “swagger around like he’s the king” and exhibit a “very, very arrogant” attitude on set. Even worse, his constant tardiness deeply bothered the highly disciplined actress. One production source noted that the crew watched it unfold and believed Mirren “no longer looks as happy working on scenes with him,” turning the workplace drama deeply personal.
Despite the heavy backstage friction, both actors tried to put on a united front for the public. Mirren jumped on Instagram to bash “bad journalism,” uploading a sweet post insisting she actually loves Hardy for “his brilliance onscreen, his dedication off screen, his good heart and especially the HardyHugs I get.” Hardy similarly gushed to Parade about his famous castmates, which included Pierce Brosnan, calling the opportunity to work together “an absolute joy.” Yet, according to insiders, behind closed doors, his habit of allegedly playing phone games and trying to alter script dialogue ultimately fractured the environment.

This isn’t the first time the Peaky Blinders alum has alienated a prominent leading lady. His legendary warfare with Charlize Theron on Mad Max: Fury Road remains one of Hollywood’s worst-kept secrets. According to Kyle Buchanan’s book Blood, Sweat & Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road, Theron reportedly became so distressed by his hours-long delays that she demanded producers fine him $100,000 for every missing minute, later admitting she felt “scared s**tless” and requested physical protection on set. Hardy eventually confessed that the pressure was overwhelming, stating, “What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me.”
Other veterans have noticed his peculiar workflow over the years. Sir Patrick Stewart, in his memoir Making It So, described a young Hardy as an “odd, solitary young man” who completely isolated himself in his trailer and refused to say good morning. While Austin Butler had a much better experience on The Bikeriders, calling him “one of the funniest people I’ve ever met,” Hardy’s combative reputation seems to have caught up with him.
