Teddi Mellencamp Reveals Why She ‘Stopped’ Trying to Fix Marriage to Edwin Before Affair, Split

Teddi Mellencamp looked back at the end of her romance with Edwin Arroyave, explaining why she “stopped” trying to fix their marriage before her cheating scandal and the decision to call it quits.

“Me and Edwin have had some of the most amazing years and the most amazing times, and when we met, I mean, it was hot, and it was all the things,” Teddi, 43, said while appearing on the Monday, February 3, episode of “The Skinny Confidential Him & Her Show” podcast. “And then, you know, there’d be somebody else. And then I’d be like, ‘It’s OK, I can work through it. I’m going to make him love me more,’ you know, whatever it was.”

However, she admitted that her and Edwin’s relationship changed over the years. “Then you have kids, and things happen. I would say probably at the point in time Edwin was ready to start working on it and really change, I probably stopped,” the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum continued.

The former couple – who tied the knot in 2011 – share kids Slate, 12, Cruz, 10 and Dove, 4.

She then admitted that she already “checked out” of the relationship before it ended, though she never told Edwin, 47, about her feelings. “I think that’s the problem,” she said.

The mother of three shared that she noticed her ex “trying to change his life,” which made her feel “resentment or animosity or fear of ever being open again.”

“I would say the worst time in our marriage was right after the kids, up until when I booked the show,” she said, referring to her time on RHOBH. “I’d had all the IVF issues, and then our biggest struggle was right when they had told me that you booked Housewives.”

Teddi confirmed her divorce from Edwin in November 2024. “After a great deal of care and consideration, I have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” she wrote via Instagram on November 2, 2024. “My priority is my children and ensuring that every care is taken with their privacy and wellbeing throughout this new chapter.”

“Making a public statement is not something I wanted to do but in an effort to protect my family from undue speculation and rumors, I felt being open, honest and vulnerable was the best path forward,” Teddi continued.

Soon after their split was revealed, In Touch confirmed that she was having an affair with horse trainer Simon Schroeder while she was still married to Edwin.

“Teddi is Simon’s biggest client. Teddi and his wife, Karli Postel Schroeder, were good friends for seven [to] eight years,” the source revealed about the affair. “Karli confronted Teddi about the affair when she found inappropriate text messages on Simon’s phone [and] Teddi promised it would not happen again.

The former reality star broke her silence regarding the scandal later that month. “The only person who can change your life is you. We have two options, pretend to be a victim or stand up and fight for yourself. We all deserve peace and happiness,” she wrote alongside a video that showed her working out, which was posted via Instagram on November 24, 2024. “I have cried and mourned. I have taken accountability and apologized for things I have done wrong. Now, I have given myself permission to grow and thrive.”
