Speaking to a crowd during a Transformers reunion panel at the 2026 Fanboy Expo in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Saturday, July 11, per People, Shia, 40, was asked about his experience working with Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle costars Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.
Looking back on his time on set, Shia said his dad, now in his seventies, often crossed the line with his famous female counterparts.
“My dad was fresh out of prison, so we were on this set, and here’s all these pretty girls walking around. Bad news,” Shia — who was a teenager when he filmed the action comedy, and often accompanied by his father on set — told the crowd, per the outlet.
“My dad was hitting on all three of those women all the time,” he added of the Charlie’s Angels cast.
It was a move Shia said Liu, 57, wasn’t particularly fond of, with the Disturbia actor telling the panel she would often avoid his father on the set of the 2003 film.
“Lucy Liu couldn’t stand my dad,” Shia added, claiming his father was always “whistling” at the Chicago star. “She couldn’t stand him. But he wasn’t going nowhere, he’s my dad. So we were just hanging out all the time, and Lucy Liu would always do these big circles around my trailer.”

Liu wasn’t the only actress who took issue with Jeffrey, Shia claimed. While on the set of his other 2003 movie, Holes, Shia said his dad also hit on Sigourney Weaver.
“My dad’s been kicked off of so many sets, dude,” Shia went on to allege, per People. “He hit on Sigourney Weaver one time. She slapped him on Holes, on the Holes set… So, that’s what I remember from Charlie’s Angels.”
Jeffrey was convicted of attempted rape in 1981 and served prison time until 1983, according to The Sun. After Shia’s 2019 semi-autobiographical film Honey Boy revisited their complicated relationship, Jeffrey told journalist Aaron Gell via GEN, a former publication from Medium, that he had in fact been convicted of attempted rape, and claimed he was “blackout drunk” at the time.

Shia later discussed their relationship during a 2022 interview on Jon Bernthal‘s Real Ones podcast, and claimed he “vilified” his father in the film, calling the depiction of his dad “nonsense.”
Though Shia has had an up-and-down relationship with his father over the years, according to People, the pair are much closer now, with a source telling the outlet in February that Shia relocated to New Orleans, where Jeffrey now reportedly lives, following his split from Mia Goth last year.
“He’s very close with his dad and wanted to spend more time with his dad,” the source told the outlet at the time.
