In a new true crime special from Oxygen, convicted killer Nick Godejohn is speaking out for the first time. As part of their Killer Couples series, the network is taking a special look at Dee Dee Blanchard’s murder in Gypsy Rose & Nick: A Love to Kill For. The two-hour show will air on Saturday, July 13 — and in it, Nick calls his short time with Gypsy Rose Blanchard “probably the best days” of his life. Though the former couple had been in an online relationship for a while, they only spent a short few days in person before they were found by the police and arrested for Dee Dee’s murder.

“That was, man, probably the best days I’ve had in my life,” Nick, 29, says in a preview for the special. “I mean, that’s the only way I can describe it. I enjoyed every second of it. From the very beginning, I just knew we were soulmates. Those five days when I was actually with her, physically with her — those five days were the most intense and magical and awe-inspiring days I’ve ever had.”

For fans who followed the couples “love story” in Hulu’s dramatized series, The Act, that may seem hard to believe. Played by actress Joey King and actor Calum Worthy, the show’s take showed them as seemingly unhealthy couple with Gypsy doing her best to mastermind the murder and an unwitting Nick awkwardly following her plan. In our Debunking The Act series, Gypsy’s family and friends told In Touch that their real life relationship was a little different: “He was very much in control [of] and dominate to Gypsy,” said Fancy Macelli, one of the By Proxy writers.

Though Gypsy has “no interest” in talking to her ex — and is even engaged to someone she met as a pen pal while in prison — Nick still seems to be stuck on their relationship. “I was gonna get a job and start looking for an apartment,” he says in the preview for the Oxygen special. “After a little ways down the road, I’d probably end up marrying her and then end up having children with her. That’s something I’ve never had with someone else. I never, ever had it. And, to this day, she’s the only one that I’ve ever had that with.”
