Kim Kardashian Is ‘Obsessed’ With the Royal Family, Princess Diana: ‘She’s on a Mission’

Kim Kardashian wowed fans by wearing Princess Diana’s amethyst pendant, but it’s just the tip of the iceberg in terms of her obsession with all things royal, a source tells In Touch exclusively.

“Kim’s fascination with the royal family has taken on a life of its own, it’s more than just casual interest. She’s totally obsessed with them, especially with Princess Diana,” the insider explains.

“Kim’s been reading about Diana since she was a teenager, studying her life and legacy like it’s her own personal history book,” the source continues. “She’s on a mission now to collect anything of Diana’s that comes up for auction.”

The Skims founder paid $197,453 at a January 2023 Sotheby’s London’s auction to acquire an amethyst and diamond crucifix pendant worn by Diana. Kim outbid three other hopefuls for the coveted item.

“This is a bold piece of jewelry by its size, color, and style, which cannot fail to make a vibrant statement — whether it be of faith or fashion, or indeed both,” Kristian Spofforth, Sotheby’s London’s head of jewelry, said in a press release at the time. “We are delighted that this piece has found a new lease of life within the hands of another globally famous name.”

Diana didn’t own the Attallah cross, which was made in the 1920s. It was lent to her by friend Naim Attallah, which the then-Princess of Wales wore on several royal appearances. Most notably, Diana paired it with a long pearl strand as a statement piece over a purple Catherine Walker gown to the1987 Birthright charity gala in London.

Kim finally wore the cross in public for the first time to attend the LACMA Art+Film Gala in Los Angeles on November 2. She put it on a short pearl strand and added a six-strand pearl choker above it.

The Kardashians star used it as a statement piece, as the 5.4-inch by 3.7-inch pendant sat against her tanned skin while she wore a custom Gucci white gown.

Kim has been royal adjacent in more ways than just jewelry. She posed for photos with Prince Harry’s mother-in-law, Doria Ragland, at the This Is About Humanity’s 5th Anniversary in Los Angeles in August 2023.

The Hulu personality put on a big smile as the stood next to Doria, 68, although her famous daughter Meghan Markle wasn’t in attendance.

Kim made a rare comment about Prince Harry, 40, and Meghan’s desire for privacy while they were still senior working members of the British royal family. At the time, the couple had stepped away from the spotlight before making their bombshell announcement in January 2020 that they would be stepping down from their positions.

“I think everyone has their own journey. I think their journey is extremely personal, with – you know, what his mother experienced and how her life was so affected by the spotlight and by paparazzi,” the SKKN founder told Australian outlet The Sunday Project in November 2019, referencing Harry’s late mother Princess Diana.

“I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them. But I think as I’m older and as I have kids, what I would want for them is just the safest place,” Kim added of Harry and Meghan, 43, who were parents to then-6-month-old Prince Archie at the time. “I can definitely empathize with their need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it.”
