Joy Behar just made a surprising announcement: She is stepping away from The View for an extended break.
The 83-year-old confirmed the news on Tuesday, May 26, during the show’s Behind the Table podcast in a conversation with producer Brian Teta.
“This is your last podcast for a little bit, because next week you’re not going to be here. Are we talking about this?” Teta asked.

“Well, they made me bank the weekend shows even though I’m not here,” Behar responded. “You better tell people why I’m not [going to be on the show].”
The longtime cohost is heading to Europe to bring her stage play, My First Ex-Husband, to international audiences following its New York City run.
“I fly to Paris this week, and then I go take the tunnel to London after a week, and I’ll be in London a second week doing my play, My First Ex-Husband, at the Boulevard Theatre in the West End,” she shared. “We have Jackie Hoffman and I [playing] the two American women talking, then we have two British actresses. Doesn’t that sound like fun?”

The comedian will appear on the daytime talk show through Thursday of this week before her absence begins.
Teta shared details about who will be filling in, explaining Sheryl Underwood — who previously served as a panelist on The Talk before it was canceled in 2024 — will step in for two days.

“We’ve already told people that Sheryl Underwood is coming,” Teta said.
He added that Kara Swisher will also fill in: “Next week we’re going to have Kara Swisher, who’s very funny, very smart, she’ll be great.”
Ana Navarro, the show’s permanent cohost who typically only appears on Mondays and Fridays, “will be here some days” while Behar is away.

In a rare move, moderator Whoopi Goldberg will also come in on Fridays, a day she usually has off. “I don’t think she knows yet, but I’ll let her know that she’s going to be here,” Teta joked.
