“John is one of the most protective fathers I’ve ever known,” an insider told the Daily Mail in a report published Sunday, June 21.
The Grease star, 72, shares the actress as well as son Benjamin, 15, and late son Jett — who died on January 2, 2009, at age 16 while on a Christmas vacation in the Bahamas — with late wife Kelly Preston.
Preston died at age 57 in 2020, two years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“He’s had so many losses in his life that he holds on to Ella and Ben in a way I’ve never seen,” said the insider. “It’s not like he smothers them. They’re just the center of his world. They have a bond that is something very special, beautiful and unusual.”
Directed by Travolta — in his directorial debut — the movie stars Clark Shotwell, Kelly Eviston-Quinnett, his daughter Ella and Olga Hoffmann as well as Travolta himself.

While Ella has “met a lot of people through John,” the insider told the Mail, “she only has a small circle of close friends.”
“She’s a very private person,” the insider added. “For the most part Ella lives at home with her father and when she travels, she usually stays with friends or family.”
“Losing Jett and Kelly brought John and Ella even closer,” the insider said. “Even though Ella’s in her mid-twenties, John is still her guiding light.”
Making the two even closer is their apparent shared belief in Scientology. John, who converted to Scientology in 1975 at age 21, has previously opened up about his involvement in the controversial church.
“John and Ella are both followers of Scientology but they hardly ever discuss it publicly,” said the Mail‘s insider. “In fact, rarely with people outside the Church. Ella and John said it’s helped them through the very tough times they’ve both had to endure. They haven’t said much more.”
In April, John celebrated his daughter’s success, posting a photo of her on Instagram.
“So proud of my baby girl @ella.bleu at the 2026 fashion US awards pink carpet,” he wrote in the caption. “Look out for Ella in my directorial debut, ‘Propeller One-Way Night Coach.'”
