Jill Duggar’s Husband Derick Dillard Slammed For Making Comment About ‘Training’ Kids

Another day, another Duggar sparking controversy on Instagram. Jill Duggar‘s husband Derick Dillard is no stranger to getting backlash online, and it seems like he’s graduated to certified Internet troll with his latest post. Derick took to Instagram to share a photo of his youngest son Samuel helping out with some household chores — and instead of making it cute, Derick went ahead and took a dark turn with his choice of words in the caption.

In the pic, 18-month-old Sam looked adorable wearing a backward orange snapback hat a cream cable-knit sweater, jeans, and tiny little work boots as he held onto the end of a sweeper. “He’s a good little helper 🙂 training him young lol 😉 #cleanuptime,” Derick, 29, wrote in the caption.

Fans immediately were triggered by Derick’s choice of words in using the word “training” in his caption. “You train dogs, not people…” one fan wrote, and another commented, “Gross. Children don’t need to be ‘trained’ for chores at 2 years old. And the word training makes me think of a dog.”

It seems like Derick may have known exactly what type of reaction he would get from his caption by the added winky-face emoticon, but some fans didn’t think it was very funny because of the controversial child-rearing method that the Duggar family is rumored to subscribe to. It’s long been speculated that the Duggar family uses the Pearl Method, which refers to the parenting advice offered by Michael and Debi Pearl in their book, To Train Up A Child.

The book is popular in the Evangelical Christian community. According to reviews of To Train Up A Child on Amazon, the Pearls offer advice on how to raise obedient children through corporal punishment. One of the more controversial tools in the book is called blanket training, which allegedly advises parents to place their baby on a blanket and if the baby attempts to roll over or crawl off the edge, parents are instructed to hit their child with a flexible ruler or another instrument, according to Babble.
