How Does Jeffrey Dean Morgan Make Money?
Jeffrey began acting professionally in the ‘90s and guest starred on a number of television shows early in his career, including Angel, ER and Walker, Texas Ranger.
One of his first major gigs was his recurring role as John Winchester on the CW’s Supernatural, starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. While his role was relatively small, only appearing in 13 out of more than 300 episodes of the show, his character’s presence was felt throughout the series and was sometimes tied to plot, even when he was not on screen. He’s also known for bringing beloved heart patient Denny Duquette to life in 23 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.
He’s perhaps most famously recognized as the leather-clad, bat-wielding villain of The Walking Dead – Negan Smith. He appeared in 95 episodes of the popular zombie drama, and it’s been reported that, at some point in the show, he made $200,000 per episode. He is currently starring in the spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City alongside fellow TWD costar Lauren Cohan.
Aside from TWD, he’s played roles in many other movies and shows based on comics books or graphic novels. In 2009, he starred in Watchmen as The Comedian, and he appeared briefly in DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice as Bruce Wayne’s father, Thomas Wayne. Coincidentally, Lauren played Martha Wayne. In 2024, he played Joe Kessler in Prime Video’s action-packed superhero drama The Boys season 4 (and he’s expected to reprise the role in season 5), and he voiced Conquest in Invincible season 3.
