‘The Real World’ Is Reportedly Making a Comeback — but Sorry, You Won’t Catch It on MTV

Get ready, because The Real World is reportedly making a comeback, and fans should be stoked AF about it. The original MTV reality series went on a bit of a hiatus in 2017 after its 32nd season, but now, the network and the production company, Bunim Murray, are thinking of rebooting it. "We're talking," Bunim Murray co-founder and The Real World co-creater, Jonathan Murray, told Deadline.

While Jonathan didn't get too specific about the show's future, he did reportedly hint that the new and improved Real World will still be done with MTV's involvement. However, there will be one major difference.

This time around, The Real World will reportedly be targeted to air on a streaming platform like Netflix or Hulu. The idea comes just after the Bravo series Queer Eye for the Straight Guy found major success moving over to Netflix.

The Real World first aired in 1992, and followed a group of eight young adults trying to navigate their way in a new city. The people on the show came from all different parts of the US — some were in relationships and some weren't. But, living in a house with several other attractive strangers makes for some damn good reality television. There were breakups, makeups, and fights — the drama was so, so real.

And with other MTV rebooted reality shows like Jersey Shore Family Vacation, TRL, and My Super Sweet 16 doing so well, The Real World has the potential to reinvent itself, too. During a time when reality television seems like the only thing people want to watch, this is a smart move.

There's no set date on when the franchise could make its way onto a streaming service, but it's a good sign that the ball is already rolling. The Bunim Murray co-founder seemed into it, and so are we!
