If you haven’t caught any of Hulu’s true crime series The Act yet, grab the popcorn and get to watching. The fictionalized account of the story of Gypsy Rose Blanchard and the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, is a must-see, but how many episodes of the show are left? It’s a limited series, so it’s not hard to sit down and watch all of the episodes if you haven’t had a chance to see any of the show just yet.

How Many Episodes of The Act Are There?

The Act — starring Patricia Arquette, Joey King, Calum Worthy and other very talented players — aired eight episodes in all for its first season. The season finale actually aired on May 1, so technically there aren’t any more to watch — yet.

The show tells the story of Gypsy’s abuse at the hands of her mother, who likely had Munchausen syndrome by proxy (MSBP), and how she and her boyfriend, Nick Godejohn, plotted her death. It’s based on a true story, and the series did a great job of laying out the sequence of events that led to Dee Dee’s death over several installments.

Are All the Episodes of The Act Online?

Unlike many other streaming series, Hulu dropped a new episode of The Act every week. Brand new episodes of Hulu originals are supposed to show up on the platform at 3:00 a.m. Eastern time, but there’s occasionally a delay. It’s not entirely clear why Hulu decided to go this route, although it’s a strategy the platform has tried before with shows like The Handmaid’s Tale.

Are There Going to Be More Episodes of The Act?

Michelle Dean, a writer on The Act, spoke with Esquire on March 28 and said there aren’t currently official plans for a season 2, and no more episodes have been produced beyond the eight planned for the first season. “There’s no season 2 right now,” she explained. “In the sense that Hulu has not picked it up. We’re still in post-production, so I think we’re focused on getting this story out to the public, and we’ll think about it.”

Is The Act Based on a True Story

However, she added, “The Act was designed as an anthology: obviously the title refers to a couple things. Obviously the act of the crime, but also the act that Dee Dee and Gypsy were putting on for the public, so yeah. If there were a season 2, those are the stories that we would be interested in telling.” It sounds like future episodes are a good possibility, so stay tuned.
