Heath Ledger’s Father Kim Reveals The Last Words the Actor Said To His Family

It's been seven years since Heath Ledger's sudden death shocked the world, but now his family is revealing the last words the 28-year-old ever said to them.

Kim Ledger, Heath's father, has revealed in a new interview that his daughter Kate was the last member of the family to speak to her brother before he died of an accidental drug overdose on Jan. 22, 2008.

Kim said to ABC News that Kate had spoken to the Australian actor on the phone just the night before he passed away, and even discussed his prescription drugs, which he was taking due to "an illness."

"Basically, Heath was complaining about not being able to sleep, because he was busy, he was meeting Steven Spielberg the next morning, he really needed to be bright and shiny and he was finding it difficult with a chest cold, or the chest infection to sleep," Kim said.

"So Kate was saying to him, 'well Heath, you can't take you know, sleeping tablets on top of prescription medication, you know it's not a good mixture.' And he sort of said, 'Katie, Katie, look…it'll be fine, you know, I just need to get some sleep.'

"Well they are really the last words we ever heard from Heath," said Kim. "Or at least, the last words that Kate heard. So, It was a terrible shock to us. I mean, he literally went to sleep."

Since his son's death, Kim has been an outspoken advocate for prescription drug abuse awareness, often challenging policy in Australia around the issue.
