Did that really happen? Legendary actor Robert De Niro attended the 2018 Tony Awards on Sunday, June 10, and unexpectedly dissed President Donald Trump while on stage to introduce a musical act. So, what exactly did he say about Trump?

Robert, 74, had the audience on the edges of their seats when he preluded with, "I’m just going to say one thing." He then, with an angry tone in his voice, screamed "F-ck Trump!" with his hands up in the air.

At first, the crowd was in shock. But a small applause soon turned into a loud one — standing ovation included! "It’s no longer 'down with Trump.' It’s 'f-ck Trump!'" the star added, which sent everyone into a roar.

After the crude comment, Robert casually introduced music icon Bruce Springsteen to the stage. "Bruce, you can rock the house like nobody else," he said. "Even more important in these perilous times, you rock the vote. Always fighting for, in your own words, truth, transparency, integrity in government. Boy, do we need that now."

Of course, CBS used the bleep button to block out Robert's comments about Trump, but many of the live stream versions showed the raw footage. "Mr. De Niro’s comments were unscripted and unexpected. The offensive language was deleted from the broadcast," the network later said in a statement.

Tony Kushner, playwright of Angels in America, defended Robert backstage. "He’s Robert De Niro," he said. "Who’s going to argue with him?"

Robert has been vocal about his disapproval for the POTUS over the past few months. "A college education is important, but education without humanity is ignorance. Look at our president. He made it through the University of Pennsylvania, so he was exposed to a quality education, but he’s still an idiot. And he lacks any sense of humanity or compassion,” he said in March, according to Hollywood Reporter.

He sounded off again in April. "America's being run by a madman who wouldn't recognize the truth if it came inside a bucket of his beloved Colonel Sanders Fried Chicken. When he doesn't like what he hears, he dismisses it by saying it's un-American and damning it as 'fake news,'" he said. "But we know the truth. All thinking people do know the truth. Your job is difficult enough without being attacked by our lowlife-in-chief." We'll just be waiting for a Trump tweet regarding this awkward situation…
