Alec Baldwin is best known for his movie star roles and three Emmy wins for TV work. The actor has now added reality star to his resume after allowing TLC’s cameras inside his home life with wife Hilaria Baldwin and their seven children for The Baldwins. What Is TLC’s ‘The Baldwins’?

Alec and Hilaria shared the news about their reality show in a June 4, 2024, Instagram video, joking that they weren’t announcing another pregnancy. “Definitely not, we’re done having kids,” the Boston, Massachusetts, native told her husband.

“We’re inviting you into our home to experience the ups and downs, the good, the bad, the wild and the crazy,” Alec explained over video of their kids running amok around their apartment. In addition to their children, the couple’s household also has six pets, including dogs and cats.

“Home is the place we love to be most,” the 30 Rock alum continued. “And we’re coming to TLC … God help you all.”

Alec Baldwin Deals With His Involuntary Manslaughter Trial Amid Family Commitments

In the first episode of The Baldwins, Alec and Hilaria head to the Hamptons as part of their annual summer tradition while preparing to celebrate son Rafael’s ninth birthday. However, at the time of filming, Alec was dealing with his upcoming involuntary manslaughter trial involving the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his movie, Rust.

“But in the midst of celebration is uncertainty as Alec faces trial. Alec and Hilaria navigate the emotional complexities of the moment, all while keeping their children’s lives as stable as possible,” Warner Bros. revealed in a January 25, 2025, press release when dropping the show’s trailer.

“A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy. This is never something to forget, and we’re trying to parent through it,” Hilaria explained in a confessional from the trailer, referring to Halyna’s son Andros, who was 10 years old when his mom died.

Alec denied pulling the trigger of the revolver that went off that fateful day. A New Mexico judge ultimately dismissed the case against Alec on July 12, 2024, after his trial had already begun, determining prosecutors withheld evidence from the defense.

“Honestly, from the bottom of my soul. I don’t know where I’d be if I didn’t have you and these kids,” The Departed star told his wife through tears in an emotional moment during the trailer.

The former yoga instructor explained, “We’ve had bad moments, but we’ve found our foundation,” after they were seen heading into what appeared to be a therapist’s office. She added, “We’re solid and we’re here together.”

Following their June 2012 wedding, Alec and Hilaria grew their family quickly. The couple welcomed daughter Carmen in August 2013. Hilaria gave birth to son Rafael in June 2015, son Leonardo in September 2016, son Romeo in May 2018 and son Eduardo in September 2020. Five months later the couple revealed they welcomed daughter Maria Lucia via surrogate in February 2021. Hilaria gave birth to their seventh child, daughter Ilaria, in September 2022.

Why Is Alec Baldwin Starring in a Reality Show?

“We did the show because it’s in place of doing a movie or a play. Now I think to myself, ‘Am I going to be away from my kids five nights out of the week until 11 o’clock at night?’” he told People in an interview published on February 11, 2025. “For me, work-related things really aren’t that critical anymore. I thought, ‘I get to spend time with my family.’”

Alec has been notoriously protective of his family over the years when it comes to paparazzi. In one scene from the trailer, one of his sons points at a photographer with a long-lens camera as Hilaria tells her child to “just ignore him.”
