He’s got something to say. Disgraced former NFL star O.J. Simpson joined Twitter on Friday, June 14 — just two days after the 25th anniversary of the murder of his former wife, Nicole Brown Simpson. The controversial figure shared a video message as his first tweet, where he introduced himself and explained the reason why he decided to join the social media platform.

“Hey, Twitter world! This is yours truly. Coming soon to Twitter, you’ll get to read all my thoughts and opinions on just about everything. Now, there’s a lot of fake O.J. accounts out there, so this one, @TheRealOJ32, is the only official one. So, it should be a lot of fun. I got a little gettin’ even to do. So God bless, take care,” the 71-year-old said.

Even though O.J. said his account was the only official O.J. account on Twitter, he still remains unverified. In his bio, the former Buffalo Bills player listed his location as Las Vegas, Nevada. His bio also read, “If you don’t see it here, I didn’t say it.” As of publication, O.J. gained 197,000 followers.

Twitter users flooded the comments with jokes and jabs at O.J., many of them referencing his infamous 1994 murder trial for the double murder of his ex-wife and her friend, Ron Goldman. Simpson was represented in the trial by a “Dream Team” of high-profile attorneys that included Robert Shapiro, Johnnie Cochran, Gerald Uelmen, and the late Robert Kardashian, Sr., just to name a few.

One of the main pieces of evidence in the cast was a dark leather glove that was found at the scene of the crime that allegedly had DNA evidence that matched O.J.’s, Nicole’s, and Goldman’s. During the trial, the prosecution asked O.J. to try on the glove, which didn’t seem to fit him, which then led to the infamous quote that came from the trial: “If it doesn’t fit, you must acquit.” O.J. was acquited the following year.
