Nipsey Hussle’s Brother Shuts Down Late Rapper’s Ex’s Demand Weeks Before Guardianship Trial

Nipsey Hussle’s ex-girlfriend Tanisha Foster lost her effort to depose the late rapper’s brother, Sam Asghedom, weeks before they are set to face off in court, In Touch can exclusively report.

According to court documents obtained by In Touch, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge denied Tanisha’s ex parte petition seeking to take Sam’s deposition.

The trial over guardianship of Nipsey’s daughter, Emani, is scheduled for February 25.

The order read, “The Court finds that insufficient evidence has been provided to grant the matter on calendar this date based upon the reading of the moving papers and consideration of all presented evidence.”

As In Touch first reported, earlier this month, Tanisha filed an emergency motion seeking Sam’s testimony as part of her effort to terminate her daughter’s guardianship. Sam filed an opposition to the request.

After Nipsey was killed on March 31, 2019, at the age of 33, his family was appointed coguardians of Emani.

The rapper also left behind a son Kross, 8, who he had with his girlfriend, Lauren London. Before being appointed coguardians, Tanisha and Nipsey’s family went back and forth in court.

The family claimed they had concerns about Tanisha and felt Emani would be in better care with them.

In the initial petition, Nipsey’s sister, Samantha Smith, told the court she helped raise Emani and wanted “to ensure the continued stability for Emani and ensure that she will be able to maintain her current and ongoing relationship” with Nipsey’s family members.

Sam, Samantha and Nipsey’s mother, Angelique Smith, have been taking care of Emani since 2019.

In 2022, Tanisha filed a petition to terminate the guardianship, according to court documents obtained by The Blast.

In the filing, Tanisha reported admitted to having initially agreed to the guardianship.

The outlet said Tanisha’s lawyer wrote, “Tanisha’s motivation for doing so was in recognition of her own financial limitations; her desire to maintain the standard of living and family contact the minor had experienced with the paternal family prior to her father’s death; and upon the verbal assurances that each of them would act in the best interests of Emani.”

However, she claimed Nipsey’s family had broken promises and she no longer felt Emani needed to be under their supervision.

Nipsey’s ex accused his family of using “their financial position and influence to disregard their priorities by controlling the desires of Emani and Tanisha by withholding financial assistance and reducing visitation.”

According to The Blast, Tanisha wrote, “There are no circumstances or events in my life that would disqualify me for regaining my exclusive role as Emani’s parent. There is no longer any need for guardianship. Emani routinely asks me when are she and I going to be able to live together. She longs to be with me as her mother. I am begging the court to terminate the existing guardianship.”

Nipsey’s family opposed Tanisha’s request. The parties have been going back and forth for over a year, with the majority of the filings heavily redacted. Nipsey’s family and his ex will finally face off in court later this month.

Nipsey’s brother revealed that the late rapper left behind property and assets worth an estimated $11 million. The two beneficiaries of Nipsey’s estate are Emani and Kross.
