‘Megyn Kelly Today’ Staffer Says He Was Fired After Reporting “Toxic” Work Culture

According to a Megyn Kelly Today former staffer, the hypocrisy runs deep on the set of the daytime talk show. Kevin Bleyer was recently fired from his position as a writer on the show — and is accusing the higher-ups at NBC for punishing him for speaking out about a “toxic” work environment. These claims come despite Megyn’s dedication to combatting harassment following Matt Lauer‘s recent firing.

“I’m sad to say… the executive incompetence continues — as does the dysfunctional management, abusive treatment, maddening hypocrisy, staggering inefficiencies, acidic and deficient communication, and relentless scapegoating. Jackie Levin persists in creating a toxic and demeaning environment, and Christine Cataldi enables and reinforces it,” he told the Daily Mail.

Before working on the morning show, the multiple Emmy-winning writer contributed to The Daily Show and was a speechwriter for President Barack Obama. On Tuesday he sent an email to NBC News human resources complaining about how producers were treating him and his team and was subsequently fired.

But, according to the network, his firing had nothing to do with his complaint. “Jackie and Christine are being attacked unfairly,” a rep for NBC News explained. “They are both excellent and experienced producers and have the full support of everyone here. He was let go for one reason only: he was the wrong fit for this role, as a comedy writer at a morning news broadcast.”

While it seems like the host of the show is not a part of this culture, Kevin is planning to sue NBC. “I know Jackie and Christine previously intended (and perhaps still do intend) to replace staffers who offer any kind of pushback or speak up for themselves,” he explained. “I have personally overheard these conversations myself. If that happens — if there is any retaliation at all — I anticipate there may be further action through official legal avenues.”
