What Is ‘Love During Lockup’?

The series is a spinoff of We TV’s Love After Lockup, which launched in 2018. That show focused on couples where one person was a prison inmate and the other person was living on the outside. It featured the inmate’s release and how the couple handled life together away from prison walls amid the inmate’s freedom.

Love During Lockup focuses on couples where the inmate already has a lengthy prison sentence, and they may not be able to have a relationship in the real world for years to come. Thus, the couples have love “during” the prisoner’s sentence. However, some inmates do have upcoming release dates, and the couples’ dating life is explored as they get closer to actually coming home.

The first of eight episodes premieres on Friday, December 13, 2024, on We TV and ABLK at 8 p.m. ET/PT and 7 p.m. CT.

Who Are Kate and Hunter on Season 3 of ‘Love During Lockup’?

Yoga instructor Kate met Hunter at the coffee shop in her Scottsdale, Arizona, neighborhood, where he had recently been hired as a barista. She said in a preview confessional that they dated casually for “about a year before he went into prison.”

Hunter’s rap sheet included aggravated DUI – including three back-to-back – driving with a suspended license, identity theft, forgery, shoplifting, credit card theft, second degree burglary and aggravated assault. He’s been incarcerated since November 2022.

“I stayed in touch with Hunter when he went into prison as friends,” she said in a confessional, because she didn’t consider someone having multiple DUIs to be a “shut-the-door red flag.”

However, Kate got “more emotionally involved than I’d like to have been. The silver lining is that I found someone who I really love.”

She’s going to be in for a big shock as Hunter admitted in the trailer, “I definitely consider myself a con man when it comes to women. I just hope it doesn’t blow up in my face.”

Tia fell in love with inmate Rob, but the Bayshore, New York, resident begins to question their relationship. Rob wants to have strippers at his welcome home party, along with Tia beside him.

Who Are Savannah and Bradly on Season 3 of ‘Love During Lockup’?

Savannah met Bradly when he was her “weed dealer” and the pair fell for each other before he went to prison. The Richmond, Virginia, resident’s family is worried about her, as neither she nor Bradley have been sober together while in the real world.

“It’s not gonna last. Bradly plans to dump you,” his sister, Alissa, tells Savannah in the trailer, to which she responds in a confessional, “F–king bitch.” Alissa also tells Savannah that Bradly is only using her.

Who Are MJ and Willie on Season 3 of ‘Love During Lockup’?

MJ and Willie knew each other for years but never dated. They both went on to marry other people and later divorced their spouses. After Willie ended up behind bars, he reached out to MJ and they fell for each other. Despite their relationship, MJ ended up cheating on Willie with her ex-husband and is about to be tempted again by returning to her hometown where her ex still lives.

Who Are Sam and Krystal on Season 3 of ‘Love During Lockup’?

“I never thought I’d find my soulmate in prison. I married Krystal knowing her release date is seven years from today,” self-proclaimed romantic Sam explained in the trailer.

The EMT found Krystal on a prison pen-pal website after his marriage ended and he fell for her. Sam even moved from Washington to Texas to be closer to his prison bride. However, Krystal’s grandmother, Rita, developed a close relationship with Sam amid his wife’s incarceration and starts to become jealous of their relationship.

Who Are Jakeema and Donny on Season 3 of ‘Love During Lockup’?

Jakeema has a history of dating inmates and found Donny after swiping through TikTok and sending him a message. They developed a relationship and single-mom Jakeema moved with her two sons from Texas to Dayton, Ohio, to be closer to her inmate boyfriend. She begins to worry that Donny might be dealing drugs inside prison, as he often sends her money.
