Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio has agreed to star in Quentin Tarantino’s new Charles Manson-themed movie. Deadline is reporting that the A-lister is teaming up with the award-winning director for the first time since 2012’s Academy Award-winning Django Unchained. The new film’s release date is set for Aug. 9, 2019, and will be Leo’s first film role since he nabbed his first Oscar for his role in The Revenant.

The plot-line of what is being dubbed the “untitled Charles Manson movie” is strictly under wraps — but the website confirmed that Leo will play “an aging actor in the story” that will remind fans of the cult-classic Pulp Fiction. It is set during the time of the Manson murder spree that terrorized Los Angeles in the 1960s and 70s. The director has reportedly also already asked Margot Robbie to play the role of the late actress Sharon Tate.

Margot and Leo also starred in The Wolf of Wall Street which proved that the actors play well together. They portrayed a married albeit dysfunctional couple, which raises the question: Will they play love interests again in this film? Margot is clearly enjoying her steady rise to fame while she is currently doing press for her critically acclaimed film, I, Tonya, where she plays former ice skater Tonya Harding. So, if she is tapped for the Tarantino film — she already has experience portraying a real-life person where audiences already know an extensive backstory.

According to Variety, the film is not a biopic, but an ensemble project set during the same time period as the murders. The film will open on the 50th anniversary of the day the Manson family committed the LaBianca murders and the day Sharon Tate was killed.

If Tarantino’s past films are any indication, the Manson movie will not shy away from the dark and gruesome aspect of the crimes. Viewers should expect to be fully immersed in the time where serial killer Charles Manson was at large. Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt are also being courted to play additional roles in the film — Sony will handle distribution.
