We know it’s been tough for Kate Gosselin to raise eight kids as a single mom — and her family has gotten a lot of attention over the years thanks to their huge family. While the reality star runs a tight ship at home, the blonde beauty has been open in the past about her son Collin’s struggles. She revealed on an episode of Kate Plus 8 back in 2015 that he was experiencing “some educational and social challenges.”

“This is a work in progress for him that we’ve sought many specialists help on. There are changes coming for him. I think it will result in a change of school for him for this upcoming year and beyond that, we’ll see,” Kate said at the time.

The TLC star also admitted in her 2010 book I Just Want You to Know that she had issues handling him, while Robert Hoffman’s book Kate Gosselin: How She Fooled the World disclosed that she used to hit the young boy.

“As you have grown, however, I must say you have also challenged my authority greatly,” Kate wrote. “At two and a half, you began testing and trying my parenting at every chance. I called Daddy [Jon Gosselin] at work many days crying because you would not obey. I had to ask you every day, ‘Who’s in charge here: you or me?’ You would reluctantly answer, ‘You are.’ As you have grown, this has not changed. You continue to be determined to do what you want to do, and I continue to try to rein you in.” She then revealed in August that she sent Collin away to receive treatment for his “special needs.”

“Collin has special needs,” the reality star explained at the time. “[There’s] a fairly fluid diagnosis of what those needs are, but he needs to learn certain strategies to help him deal with things. This has been a struggle we’ve had for a very long time, and it’s one I’ve dealt with on my own. I’ve felt very alone in this. By the same token, it’s not something that has only impacted me or him — our entire family has been impacted.”

He re-appeared on the family reality series back in January.
