Kailyn Lowry Opens Up About Her Mental Health — And Receives a Startling Diagnosis
Teen Mom 2 star Kailyn Lowry has always been candid about her battle with bipolar disorder, which she was diagnosed with shortly after giving birth to her older son Isaac.
But on a Nov. 25 appearance on The Doctors, the mother-of-two revealed that she suspects she may have been misdiagnosed!

She explained that she had a lot going on in her life at the time of her diagnosis; as a single mom at 17, she had just given birth to her first child and was still trying to assist her mother with her sobriety.

She shared details of her diagnosis with psychiatrist Shahla Modir, who explained to The Doctors hosts that while Kail’s mother has the disorder, and she did experience a depressive episode following the birth of her son, she “didn’t actually meet the technical criteria” for bipolar II disorder, adding, “She met bipolar unspecified.”

The 23-year-old said she first suspected she was misdiagnosed after she stopped going to therapy and refilling her prescription for mood stabilizers after her “life got hectic.”
Regardless, Kail seemed relieved to finally have a proper diagnosis.
“It does make sense to me,” she gushed. “I do I feel like this is truly what my diagnosis is. I’m feeling a lot better.”
