“These people look at the old person, they think they’re the weak person here between my work ethic and my level of competition,” she said during her introduction package. “They’re going to soon realize that they’re going to want me here.”

Sue told her fellow contestants that she is 45 years old, but she is actually 59 years old as of publication.

“Do it all. Do everything. If you want to travel, if you just want to be outdoors, if you want to start a new career, just do it all because it’s so rewarding and you’re not too old,” Sue said during an episode. “I don’t care what age you are, you’re never too old. It’s all what makes you feel better.”

What Is Survivor’s Sue Smey’s Job?

Sue is a flight school owner and dominated the male-driven career path over the years.

“When I first got into the aviation industry, I’d have such a push back from the men. I felt like they almost laughed at me. So, I’m going to keep pushing forward and none of them matter,” Sue said during her introduction. “Now, I have a really successful flight school and everyone in the area knows who we are. We need more women in the aviation industry. Only 6% is women. My goal is to try to open this up to women. They need to be empowered and I was totally underestimated coming here.”

Sue is a proud mom to her daughter, whom she welcomed at a young age.

“And she’s had a son at a younger age, so I’m actually a grandma. My life is around my family. That’s basically what I do,” Sue said on the show.

While talking to her costars, Sue revealed that her daughter is a fan of Survivor and they even watched the first-ever episode together when she was seven years old.

“Life happened, my daughter started getting sick. She ended up being diagnosed with juvenile diabetes, but at the time, we didn’t know,” she explained. “The only thing that was a good thing around that time were the times that Jeff came into our freakin’ living room and took us away from our reality, just for a brief moment. But that was the only time we literally didn’t think about our horrifying life and what was going to happen to her, because we didn’t know.”

Sue was once married, but she is now in a 15-year relationship.
