“Why can’t Trump clean a pool, or throw a real 250th party? It’s not (just) incompetence. It’s also corruption,” the former presidential hopeful, 78, shared via social media on Monday, June 29.
Along with photos of a sparse crowd on the National Mall and another of a green Reflecting Pool, Clinton shared graphics detailing the federal contracts awarded by the Trump administration for the two projects.

“The Trump administration has awarded nearly $103 million in federal contracts and grants for the 250th anniversary celebrations to a network of politicized entities under the control of Trump administration official and political allies,” one, taken from Public Citizen, read.
The other was screenshot of a Wall Street Journal article titled, “The Company Cleaning Up the Reflecting Pool Says It Has ‘Nothing to Hide.'”
“Greenwater Services got a no-bid contract and is party owned by a twice-convicted felon who is a Trump friend,” the story noted.
Clinton’s remarks come as many have questioned where the millions of dollars allocated for the 250th celebration of the United States went, as the lackluster fair has been likened to the disastrous Fyre Festival.

The 16-day event kicked off on June 25 after a number of big-name musicians dropped out of performing, claiming they had been promised a non-partisan event.
As for the reflecting pool, Trump, 80, awarded a nearly $15 million no-bid contract to a company with no prior federal contracts. After the pool quickly filled with algae, the president alleged that vandals slashed a 350-foot “scar” in the pool’s liner with a box knife weeks after claiming, “If you had a knife, you couldn’t even cut it. It’s so strong. So powerful.”
