Angelina Jolie Reveals She Hasn’t Dated Since Brad Pitt Divorce: ‘Life Has Broken Me a Little’

Angelina Jolie is opening up about a deeply personal aspect of her life as she promotes her upcoming film Couture.

During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment per People on Tuesday, June 23, the actress, 51, appeared to mention her ex-husband, Brad Pitt, while discussing why she resonates with her character Maxine Walker, a filmmaker who falls in love while navigating a breast cancer diagnosis.

“To be candid, I haven’t dated since I divorced a decade ago, right?” the mom of six explained to the outlet. “So I kind of get in my head that that aspect of me is not centered in my life if I’m focusing on my children and my family.”

Jolie admitted that the film made her rethink her life. “So it took me a second to say, ‘Look, she can also love her daughter and be dedicated to her daughter and also need this as a woman and receive this as a woman.’ And that in fact, it might be very healing for her,” she said.

The role hit close to home for another reason too: Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, died in 2007 from complications of ovarian and breast cancer.

The Girl, Interrupted star made another vulnerable admission. “Life has broken me a little,” before adding, “I have to live again. Be free again.”

Talking about her daughters, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 20, and Vivienne, 17, Jolie revealed their role in helping her through the turbulent phase.

“They speak to me as young women, and I see what I want for them,” she said. “I see what I don’t want them to lose and what I want them to hold on to. And in a way, this is reminding me of what I might have lost myself.”

Her daughters are “bringing me back to my old self,” she added.

“I think they kind of want me now to not just be ‘Mom,'” she told the outlet. “There’s a different room for me to be that woman again, that’s not just a mom.”

Since her highly-publicized divorce, Jolie has stayed focused on raising the six children she shares with Pitt, Maddox, 24,  Pax, 22, Zahara, Shiloh, Knox, 17, and Vivienne, while taking on a few select acting roles.

Pitt has been dating Ines de Ramon since 2022.
