Harry Styles’ mother, Anne Twist, reacted to Liam Payne’s death just hours after the former One Direction member died.
Anne, 56, took to Instagram on Wednesday, October 16, to share her reaction to Liam’s passing. “Just a boy …” she captioned a photo of a broken heart emoji.
Shortly after Anne shared the post, several social media users took to the comments section to express their condolences. “Gone too soon and so young. Forever in our hearts Liam,” one person commented, while another added, “Just a boy. Heartbroken for Liam’s deep suffering and for all who loved him. Addiction is a treacherous illness. Please hug Harry and the boys for all of us. Tenderness and love.”
Meanwhile, others urged Anne to take care of Harry, 30, as he grieved the loss of his former bandmate. “Take care of Harry for us,” a third person wrote. An additional social media user chimed in, “Anne, take care of yourself and please take care of our Harry for us! Mental health is everything! We love you.”
Anne previously got to know Liam when he and Harry formed One Direction with Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson after they auditioned for The X Factor in 2010. After they were grouped together on the competition reality show, the band went on to become a global sensation until they went on an indefinite hiatus in 2016.
Liam died at the age of 31 after he fell off the third floor balcony of CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on October 16, In Touch confirmed. A 911 call was placed and officials arrived at the scene, though Liam was already dead in the internal courtyard upon their arrival.
“There was no possibility of resuscitating him,” authorities said. “He had extremely severe injuries that were incompatible with life due to the fall.”
Buenos Aires emergency services chief Alberto Crescenti confirmed that Liam died from “very serious injuries” that he sustained from the fall. “Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death,” he said, according to The Sun.
One day after his passing, Liam’s family issued a statement regarding his death. “We are utterly devastated by the news,” an unnamed family member told The Daily Mail on Thursday, October 17.

Liam was the son of mother Karen and dad Geoff, while he also had two older sisters, Nicola and Ruth. His sisters reportedly arrived at their family home on the morning after his death.
“We are heartbroken,” the family statement continued. “Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
The “Night Changes” singer was alone in Argentina on the day he died. He previously traveled to the country with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, to attend Niall’s concert on October 2. However, Kate, 25, left Argentina two days before Liam’s death on Monday, October 14.
