Giuliana Rancic Responds to Jerry O’Connell’s Story About Their Split: ‘His Memory Is Fuzzy’

Giuliana Rancic is clapping back at her ex, Jerry O’Connell, following his recent comments about their split.

“Have you guys heard? Apparently my ex-boyfriend has been talking about our breakup publicly after 22 years,” Rancic, 51, said in an Instagram video posted Thursday, July 23. “Hmm. Imagine that.”

Calling the 52-year-old actor’s memory “fuzzy,” the former E! News correspondent said she caught wind of O’Connell’s comments while on vacation, with Rancic playfully sipping a cocktail as she addressed her more than 2 million followers.

While she didn’t have a rebuttal to O’Connell’s claims, Rancic said that despite several outlets reaching out to her for comment, she instead plans to address the drama in “a 40-minute podcast” with her husband, Bill Rancic, and even invited O’Connell to the show.

“Tune in next week, Bill and Giuliana: The Podcast. And Jerry, you are so invited,” Rancic teased. “We’d love to have you.”

As In Touch reported earlier this week, O’Connell discussed his relationship with Rancic on the Monday, July 20, episode of the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast.

Admitting that the breakup ended “poorly,” O’Connell, who briefly dated Rancic before marrying his wife, Rebecca Romijn, confessed: “I was a pretty terrible boyfriend.” He then apologized to Rancic and other exes for his less-than-stellar behavior in his younger years.

“We had a lot of fun together,” he said of his time with Rancic before noting that she didn’t run what she wrote about him in her 2015 memoir, Going Off Script, by him before it was published.

In Going Off Script, Rancic reflected on their tumultuous breakup, claiming O’Connell ended their relationship over the intercom at his condominium.

According to host Kelly Ripa, Rancic wrote in her memoir that O’Connell, whom she dated from 2003 to 2004, had “as much emotion as the customer service representative who tells you your bags missed the flight” when it came to ending their relationship.

“That is a great line,” O’Connell told Ripa, 55, on the podcast, adding that Rancic is a very “smart girl.”

Ripa also shared that Rancic claimed O’Connell told her over the intercom, “Nope, sorry, homegirl. Things change, but you take care, OK?”

When Ripa asked whether that’s really how the breakup happened, O’Connell said, “I’ve never spoken about this story.”

“I broke up with her through an intercom because Giuliana Rancic came to my condominium…and hit the intercom,” he explained. “I was not expecting Giuliana Rancic to come to said condominium.”

O’Connell, who said he had “someone” else inside, claimed Rancic “wanted entry into my condominium” without warning.

“Thank goodness [there was a] buzzer, gate, security,” O’Connell, who opted out of revealing who was inside his condominium at the time of her surprise visit, said. “I mean, I paid a pretty hefty homeowners’ fee for these things — cameras and everything — and I said, ‘I did not know you were coming. You can’t come up here. You can’t come here unannounced.'”

Asked what he actually said over the intercom, O’Connell replied, “I don’t recall exact wording. So I can’t deny that I said that. It doesn’t sound like something I would say, but again, if I was writing a memoir, it made for a good quote.”

“So you know what, I’m going to applaud Giuliana for using colorful dialogue and everything,” he concluded.

O’Connell has yet to publicly respond to Rancic’s invitation.
