When Flavor of Love first premiered in 2006, no one would predict how monumental it would become for reality television. Even today, eleven years later, people still wonder about New York, Hoopz, Hottie, and the other rememberable cast members who all competed for the heart of rapper Flavor Flav.
Originally, people thought it would be a failure. After all, why would 20 women fight over the 40-something rapper? He wasn't exactly like the typical Ken dolls that graced The Bachelor. But in the end, the energy of competition forced some bizarre, almost obsessive behavior from the girls. And today, many of them maintain that they really did have feelings for Flav, however brief.
"When you take a group of people, take them away from their homes, take away their cell phones and television, and their phone calls are bugged — and there’s this one guy who shows up and decides whether you’ll get to eat a nice dinner tonight or whether you’re going to be in a limo with him — it’s like Stockholm Syndrome and they become very quickly caught up in it," Flavor of Love co-creator Mark Cronin said in 2014. "You’ll actually even see that when somebody gets eliminated from one of these shows, they kind of snap out of it very quickly. Like they suddenly realize, 'What was I thinking?'"
As for the most famous person on the show, Tiffany Pollard, she has maintained that she really did love Flav. In fact, in 2017, she even went into explicit detail about what having sex with Flav was like.
“[When I met Flav] he’s taking me out in limos, he’s living in mansions and everything and I did squeeze it and it was so big," she said. "Like, literally it hit his kneecap.”
