The Duggars Run Down the Aisle After They Get Married for One Funny Reason

As anyone who saw Jessa and Ben Seewald swapping vows can attest, the couple had a very unique wedding. The nuptials were televised on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting, of course, but the lovebirds also got hitched in front of hundreds of guests in a massive church. Not only that, they ran from the altar just after they were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. Seewald. (Their wedding party followed their cue and booked it down the aisle, too!)

Older sis Jill also beat a hasty retreat down the aisle after she wed Derick Dillard in an episode airing just five months prior. So what’s the deal with the running? In Jessa’s case, the answer lies with _another _unique aspect of her wedding.

“Did you all happen to notice that there was maybe something missing?” Pastor Mike Schadt asked the well-wishers. “Like, what’s up with that?”

He’s referring, of course, to the newlyweds’ first kiss — their first kiss ever as a couple, in fact. “It was their desire that they would share this unique and precious time alone, intimately alone,” he explained.

“I guarantee you — and I know where they’re at, but I ain’t gonna tell you — I can tell you right now they’re smooching,” the pastor continued. “So the bottom line, the longer I talk, the more they can smooch in private! So if I could just have your attention for about three hours … The first kiss is a long one in private, you know what I’m saying?”

Pastor Mike! Michelle and Jim Bob are sitting right there! The parents of the bride didn’t seem to mind the innuendo, though — the pastor’s stand-up comedy routine had them in hysterics, as you can see in that video.

So there’s your answer: The Duggars run down the aisle after they get married because they want their “unique and precious time alone”… and perhaps because they want to figure out how to kiss photogenically before it’s time for the portraits.

Now the only question left is, will we see Joseph Duggar and Kendra Caldwell do the same on tonight's season finale? Welp, all evidence points to yes!

The season finale of Counting On airs Monday, March 26 at 9 p.m. EST on TLC.
