For Some Reason People Think Derick Dillard’s Mom Passed Away, but She’s Actually Doing Better Than Ever

Why, oh why, do Duggar fans constantly think that Derick Dillard's mom Cathy Dillard died? The Dillard family matriarch has had some health battles over the last several years, but she's still alive, and doing better than ever.

"Diagnosed with stage 4 cancer 4 years ago today… celebrating being cancer free by riding a stationary bike at work cuz they’re building new cubicles in our office!" she wrote on April 10. Jill Duggar responded to her mother-in-law by writing, "Praise the Lord!! We love you Mima!! ?" Just two weeks after Jill and Derick got engaged, they were hit with the news that Cathy had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. She was so sick that she couldn't even attend their rehearsal dinner. To make it to the wedding, she had to arrive in a wheelchair directly from the hospital. However, she made it through chemo and is completely cured today. "4 years ago today I had a CT scan that showed my liver & spleen looked 'like Swiss cheese', as the doctor put it. He wouldn’t refer me to an oncologist. 'It wouldn’t do any good' were his actual words… and so it began. Pass the turkey & rye please!" she wrote on Twitter.

Perhaps fans are mistaking Cathy for her first husband and Derick's dad Rick Dillard, who sadly passed away in 2008. Derick paid tribute to him in 2017, writing, "Nine years ago today I said goodbye to the greatest man I knew. The greatest, namely, because he taught me in word and deed about Jesus Christ. He protected and served the public as a police officer, and he loved God and his family. His time came sooner than expected, but I know he would have loved being grandpa Dillard to little Israel too. He is my dad, and I look forward to seeing him again on the other side of eternity. Rick W. Dillard (1957-2008)."

Cathy was re-married after Rick passed away to a man named Ronnie, who also attended Jill and Derick's wedding. Now, the pair looks forward to soon becoming grandparents for a third time, since Derick's brother Dan and wife Deena are expecting their first child, a little boy, soon. While Cathy's Instagram makes her look like a loving mother and sweet old lady, she shares many of Derick's controversial views. For example, she spoke out about the marches for gun control following the Parkland shootings, asking someone whose daughter participated, "would she do it to protest the killing of 1,000’s of babies each day?" She also spoke out about the Oscars, abortion, and said students should be "lining up to thank Donald Trump." Like mother, like son. That said, we're glad she's healthy.
