Brock Turner’s High School Still Perceives Him As a Champion (EXCLUSIVE)

Is Brock Turner still considered a champion in his hometown high school?

While USA Swimming, the national governing body of competitive swimming, has banned the convicted rapist for life, a photo exclusively obtained by In Touch reveals that his hometown high school, Oakwood High, in Dayton, Ohio, has yet to remove his name from the swim team’s record board that hangs near the school’s cafeteria.

The board which displays the swim team members that hold the record for fastest times, highlights the once Olympic hopeful's swimming achievements four times.

A former classmate of Brock’s, Mark Otto, tells In Touch that he is not surprised that the predominantly white community seems to be more concerned about Brock’s swimming career than the horrific crime.

“The thing about Oakwood, Ohio [where he and Brock grew up], is that people live in a very sheltered bubble. There’s a lot of ignorance, and no willingness to change or learn,” Mark, a NYC-based model and assistant designer, explains.

"What he did is inexcusable and people should be outraged,” Mark says. “I’ve heard people say that the victim was drunk and doesn’t even remember — they question why she cares. [Their way of thinking] is not OK. There is no gray area here. I support the victim 100 percent.”

Another one of Brock’s former classmates, who wishes to remain anonymous, agrees. “I think his white male privilege is giving him this lenient sentence,” says the classmate. “The whole situation is surreal.”
