Colton Underwood is speaking out after a social media user posted a hurtful comment about his family.
The former Bachelor star took to Instagram on Tuesday, May 26, to respond after a troll wrote, “I feel bad for that kid,” underneath a photo of Underwood, husband Jordan C. Brown and their son, Bishop, 20 months.
In a follow-up slide shared to his Instagram Stories, Underwood directly addressed the comment, writing, “Genuinely curious what you meant by this. Because if you ‘feel bad’ for Bishop, I’d love to understand why. He’s loved, supported, celebrated, happy and surrounded by people who show up for him every single day.”
The controversial reality star went on to criticize the vague nature of the remark, adding, “What a child actually needs protection from isn’t a loving family. It’s ‘adults’ who use vague, loaded comments to express disapproval they don’t have the courage to say out loud. Words like yours, ambiguous enough to deny, pointed enough to wound, are exactly how kids learn that who they are is something to be ashamed of. That’s the thing worth feeling bad about.”

Underwood concluded the post by assuring followers that his family is “great” and thanked the commenter for the “reminder that this work still matters.”
In the caption accompanying the post, the 34-year-old reflected on how public criticism still impacts him while explaining why he continues to share his story openly.

“Comments like this are something I write about a lot in [his memoir] Dear Bishop. Some days they don’t affect me. Other days, they ruin my day,” he wrote. “Most days, they remind me why sharing my life this publicly is worth it … because somewhere there’s a kid, or a man, who might find comfort or something familiar in my story. That’s what keeps me living openly.”
As In Touch previously reported, Underwood publicly came out as gay during a 2021 interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America. He later married Brown, 43, in 2023, and the couple welcomed son Bishop via surrogate in September 2024.
