Angel Reese Tells Shaquille O’Neal She’s ‘Scared of Men’ Like Him Who Have ’40 Cars and 40 Phones’

Angel Reese and Shaquille O’Neal share a sweet friendship, but the WNBA star once made it clear she could not date someone like the retired athlete.

In a resurfaced clip from a 2024 episode of the Unapologetically Angel podcast, the Atlanta Dream player, 24, asked the four-time NBA champion, 54, whether a woman had ever gone through his phone, and he said yes, noting that nobody ever found anything.

“It’s called other phone in one of my other cars. I got 40 cars,” O’Neal said. “If you figure out which car my other phone is, you can go through it, but you’re not.”

“I’m scared of men like you,” Reese replied. “I don’t want a man ever having 40 cars and 40 phones.”

“I don’t have 40 phones, I just said that to see your response, see,” O’Neal laughed.

Later in the podcast, the former Los Angeles Lakers player — who was married to wife Shaunie from 2002 to 2009 — explained that he doesn’t think what he does on his phone should factor into his relationship.

“If I’m not physically seeing somebody, me, the diesel, I’m not physically seeing somebody, and I’m with you every day, and you know my schedule shouldn’t matter what I’m doing on my phone. It’s not cheating,” he said. “And then you can’t tell me that’s worse than cheating. It’s not like I just don’t understand that. I already know I’m going to end up being alone.”

As for Reese, she was single at the time they filmed the episode and declared she was looking for a “strong, confident man.” It seems her wish has come true as she is now dating Orlando Magic player Wendell Carter Jr.

Carter, 27, confirmed the relationship on a November 2025 episode of FanDuel TV’s Run It Back.

“That’s the homie for sure. We locked in,” Carter said of Reese. “Y’all gonna find out when y’all need to find out. We’ll just leave it at that. That’s my girl, though. We locked in for sure.”
