The assassination of former president John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, is a moment in time that will never be forgotten — and now you can own a piece of history.
Earlier this week, Heritage Auctions revealed its 250th Anniversary Auction celebrating the American experience, and the window through which Kennedy was shot and killed at age 62 is one of the items up for grabs.
Lee Harvey Oswald shot the 35th president of the United States through the sixth-floor window of the Texas School Book Depository while Kennedy was traveling in a motorcade in Dallas, Texas.
“As a silent witness to one of the defining moments of the twentieth century, the window remains one of the most consequential and emotionally resonant artifacts connected to the Kennedy assassination and modern American history,” the auction page reads.
“Removed from the Depository in the 1960s and carefully preserved for posterity, the window stands today as a somber reminder of the tragedy that forever changed the nation and the course of American history,” the auction page adds.
According to the bidding page for the item, the double-hung wooden frame is 40 x 66 inches with eight divided glass lites (panes), each measuring approximately 15 x 17 inches.

The condition of the window is said to be overall “very good with the wooden frame remaining in its original, unrestored condition, presenting as it did when removed from the building shortly after the assassination.”
The window was removed approximately six weeks after the assassination by the building’s owner, Colonel D. Harold Byrd, who had acquired the Depository in 1939.
The window is accompanied by extensive documentation as well as photographic material depicting the Kennedy motorcade as it passed below.
Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as president immediately following Kennedy’s death.
