Linda Hoffman-Pugh became one of the most controversial figures connected to the murder of JonBenét Ramsey, and now, following her recent death, John Ramsey is speaking exclusively with In Touch.
John, 82, says that while he didn’t know Hoffman-Pugh very well, his late wife and JonBenét’s mother, Patsy Ramsey, did.
He explains that “early on” in the investigation of his daughter’s death, Patsy said that “if Linda was involved she would never hurt JonBenét.”
She was working as a housekeeper for the Ramsey family when JonBenét was killed, and at one point, she was considered a person of interest before being cleared by the police.
After John and Patsy published their book, The Death of Innocence: The Untold Story of JonBenét’s Murder and How its Exploitation Compromised the Pursuit of Truth, Hoffman-Pugh filed a $50 million lawsuit against them and accused them of libel.
According to a report from United Press International published in March 2001, Hoffman-Pugh alleged that JonBenét’s parents falsely identified her as a murder suspect in their book. Her lawyer claimed that The Death of Innocence included “deliberate false statements made by the Ramseys against our client … making her look as if she may have been involved.”
Hoffman-Pugh’s lawsuit was dismissed by the federal court, and the dismissal was upheld when she later appealed the original decision.
JonBenét was just 6 years old when she was strangled to death on Christmas Day in 1996, and over the years her murder has become one of the most high-profile cases in history. Nearly 30 years later, it remains unsolved.
